When the current owners were looking to buy a home on Mercer Island in 2007 they were looking for a home that gave them ample square footage, had a good layout, and was located on a nice street.
Since 2007 the owners have transitioned the 1966 Cape Cod style home into a Craftsman.
Every detail and material for the renovation was carefully considered. Big changes came by adding a master suite and transforming the bonus room into a light filled space. Little changes, but with big impact, are found in the built-in speakers in the living areas, the irrigation system, and the garage doors, all of which have the ability to be controlled from a cell phone.
The current owners spend a majority of their time in the kitchen, dining, and family room. They worked with the existing extra-wide galley kitchen and replaced all the plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems (including the water main into the house!).
“For maximum efficiency when short on space, this layout excels. Its two parallel counters make all points of the work triangle equally accessible. Important things to keep in mind during your design are: aisle space, light, and storage.” This Old House
Durable counters, under-cabinet lighting (that doesn’t heat up the space), stainless appliances, and down lighting over the peninsula make the kitchen user friendly and comfortable.
Indoor/outdoor living is a breeze for this home. The back yard is fully fenced in for pets, has a play structure for the little ones, and turf that has handled kids and entertaining friends like a champ.
